Google is finally opening AdWords for CBD products. As a result of the last resolution by the World Health Organization, AdWords is officially allowing CBD products to be included in their paid search results.
It’s official, Google has just announced today (Sunday), that starting next month (May 2018) CBD products will be included in AdWords paid search results, following by other non-THC products. As a result, CBD Products, such as CBD Oil, CBD Softgels, CBD Flowers, etc. will no longer be included in the list of ‘Dangerous products or services’, but a ‘food supplement’ which falls under a different category.
This is a brave but long-expected move by the leading paid search giant, since CBD products have always had problems advertising themselves, both by Google, Bing and Facebook. From the announcement, it is clear that AdWords has been waiting for someone else to make the first move and now, after the WHO has officially declared that “CBD Not Associated With Abuse Potential”, it is time for the web giant to make the next step.

While this a great opportunity to anyone promoting CBD and other non-THC products, sites offering ‘recreational’ Cannabis are still out of the question. Google terms are leaving no doubt that this distinction won’t be changed any time soon.
“We want to help keep people safe both online and offline, so we don’t allow the promotion of some products or services that cause damage, harm, or injury. For this reason, Google ads may not be placed on pages that sell or promote recreational drugs and drug-related content”
Now, after Google has bravely made the long-expected move, all eyes are on Facebook. Will it be the next one to accept CBD?
Update: Unfortunately, promoting CBD products in AdWords is still not possible, due to the simple fact, that this article was written on the first day of April… However, one day this also might become a reality…
