New Cannabis Patch For Treating Nerve Pain Currently Under Development

Written by Corre Addam

For centuries, cannabis has been used as a homeopathic remedy to treat many disorders. Evidence shows that cannabis can be used to treat everything from neurological disorders, cancer, rheumatism, epilepsy, sexual disorders, pain, and more.

Today, a new and modern way to apply this ancient herbal remedy is currently being developed: a cannabis patch that can be used to alleviate fibromyalgia and diabetic nerve pain. Cannabis Science, a company based in California, is responsible for creating this innovative new medicinal patch.

The patch, which is placed on the patient’s skin, delivers a specific dose of high potency cannabidiol (CBD) extract that eventually move into the bloodstream. Then, the CBD penetrate the central nervous system delivering pain relief. Nerve pain is a debilitating symptom that can significantly reduce a patient’s quality of life. Nerve pain can result from many illnesses including fibromyalgia, diabetes, celiac disease, and multiple sclerosis.

Numerous studies have discovered that, “CBD, the second major cannabinoid in marijuana after THC, has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, but no psychoactive effects. However, recent research shows that CBD can be an effective treatment for many kinds of pain. Inflammatory pain has been treated effectively with CBD as well and some studies have shown that CBD may be more effective at treating inflammatory pain than traditional medication.”

The National Institute of Health estimates that over 5 million Americans suffer from fibromyalgia, for which there is no known cure and treatment is said to be rather difficult. According to an online survey conducted by the National Pain Foundation, patients stated that traditional medications used to treat fibromyalgia are unsuccessful for the most part. Patients that have tried cannabis instead reported promising results. Overall, the survey found that cannabis is actually the most effective treatment for nerve pain.
