Following Switzerland’s lead, where high-quality CBD hemp has been flying off the shelves since late 2016, London-based Hemp Botanics has become the first retailer to bring the non-psychoactive buds to the UK market.

Located on Portobello Road in London’s famous Notting Hill, Hemp Botanics first offered what it describes as “100% legal, non-psychoactive, CBD-rich hemp buds” at the beginning of August, with many of the strains they have in stock selling out just over a week later – this journalist being one of the first to make a purchase of these CBD Buds.

 Bonnie & Clyde

The hemp buds that are on offer at Hemp Botanics are from Bonnie & Clyde, a company that runs a private cannabis club in Barcelona and has its hemp growing operations in Switzerland – where the current trend for high-CBD, low-THC took off last year and has been going from strength to strength since.

The indoor-grown buds – which look, smell, and taste like the ‘real thing’ – are available in various strains, such as Bonnie’s Cookies and Purple Haze, and have as much as 23% CBD. THC levels are not stated on the company’s website, although they are believed to be below 0.4%. A 7% CBD hash is also available.

Hemp grown in the UK is supposed to have less than 0.2% THC levels to be in accordance with UK law, which brings the legality of these products into question. Hemp Botanics has so far been unresponsive to requests for clarification on this matter, although they do state on their website that the product is “legally EU-grown”.

 A First for the UK

As stated previously, these are the first high-grade CBD hemp buds to be sold on the UK market. Previously, those who wanted to consume hemp for its CBD had to make do with hemp grown for industrial purposes – usually stringy buds with lots of seeds – which is sold online as hemp tea and has CBD levels of, at most, 3-4%.

This new product from Bonnie & Clyde – which is also available on Hemp Botanic’s online store – is, therefore, a game changer for the UK CBD market. Despite only being available for a few of weeks at the time of writing this article, the products already have 14 gleaming reviews from very satisfied customers.

Reviewing Hemp Botanic’s ‘Bonnie and Clyde- Cherry (13-15% CBD)’, an enthused customer by the name of Ben says, “I’ve been trying the ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ products relentlessly now. this is by far my favourite tasting one! smells unbelievably sweet! deffo one for the connoisseurs!!”

The Real Deal

And this journalist would have to agree. Ideal for vaping, smoking or pressing into rosin, Hemp Botanic’s Bonnie & Clyde CBD hemp buds are the real deal. The high levels of CBD give a notable relaxation effect to the mind and body, and the smell and taste give a real sense of authenticity and enjoyment to the act of consuming.

If you are in the market for high-CBD hemp buds with no psychoactive effects, I can’t recommend this product enough. Just be sure to get your order in before it sells out again because, once word spreads, these buds are going to be extremely popular, as is already the case in Switzerland.
